Boris Visits Brookfield Adult Learning Centre

Boris Johnson, Member of Parliament for Uxbridge and South Ruislip recently visited Brookfield Adult Learning Centre to meet with the volunteers, tutors and students and find out more about the wide range of courses they have on offer.

Brookfield Adult Learning is run by the London Borough of Hillingdon and allows residents to sign up to courses to learn new skills.

Boris was delighted to meet the people in the Talk English Conversation Group. The Group aims to help residents who have a small level of English to improve their skills and in turn aims to boost their confidence. Most importantly the course ensures that people are equipped with the skills they may need in emergency situations such as booking GP appointments.

The volunteers explained how many of the courses attendees later go on to volunteer at the centre themselves to teach the course.

Boris also dropped into the class taking the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification and was honoured to present the learners with 100% attendance certificates to reward them for their dedication to the programme.

Speaking after the visit Boris Johnson MP said: “It is fantastic to see the great work being done at Brookfield Adult Learning Centre. These courses are providing huge opportunities to the residents of Hillingdon to learn new skills and thereby giving people a huge confidence boost. It was great to see how many former students are taking the time to volunteer and teach others.”
