Uxbridge and South Ruislip MP, Boris Johnson has submitted four local nominations for this year’s prestigious NHS Parliamentary Awards.
The NHS Parliamentary Awards was launched in 2018 to celebrate the NHS’ 70 birthday and recognise the outstanding contribution of staff, volunteers and others working in the health and care sector and provide an opportunity for health and care organisations to engage with local MPs.
Boris has revealed that he has nominated H4All HIU for The Excellence in Urgent and Emergency Care Award. The HIU service was launched in 2019 to reduce the repeated unnecessary attendances and admittances to The Hillingdon Hospital A&E for the 50 highest users. The team deliver a holistic model of support that utilises health coaching, integrative counselling, and social prescribing for these patients who do not fit into traditional systems of support. Boris met with some of the staff from the team back in December 2021 to congratulate them on winning the highly prestigious HSJ award for Urgent and Emergency Care Initiative of the Year 2021 and has now nominated them for this new honour.
Also nominated are the Hillingdon Cove Café in the Excellence in Mental Health Care Award category. Provided by Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, the Café provides a welcoming, safe, and supportive space as well as a hot drink and snack, for residents of Hillingdon assessed to be experiencing or are at risk of developing mental health distress. Staff at the Café aims to equip people with the skills they need to reduce their immediate anxiety, formulate individual self-directed safety plans and signpost them to local services and resources that may help them moving forward.
Boris has nominated the Hillingdon Partnership Covid Vaccination Programme in the Excellence in Primary Care and Community Care Award category. The team, led by the Confederation CIC, working on behalf of Hillingdon practices and working with a variety of community stakeholders, came together to deliver one of the most successful Covid-19 vaccination programmes in London.
Finally, he has put forward the team at SPECT CT Nuclear Medicine Department at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for The Future NHS Award. The SPECT CT scanners have provided a platform for nuclear medicine expertise and a hybrid approach to imaging. Its dual imaging capability allows it to be utilised as a stand-alone CT in the event of an emergency or support the CT imaging service.
Commenting, Boris said: “NHS staff and volunteers make a true difference to the lives of their patients, and so I am pleased to have the opportunity to recognise some of the local teams working across Hillingdon as part of this year’s NHS Parliamentary Awards. They all do incredible work caring and supporting the people of our constituency.”
Shortlisted entries will be announced in June 2022, with the final Awards ceremony taking place in central London on Wednesday 6 July 2022.
