Uxbridge and South Ruislip's businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and are vital to our economy, employing over 12.5 million people.
As your MP I am especially keen to help support small businesses. From high-tech manufacturing firms to bakers, retailers, restaurants and social enterprises, the UK is home to a record number of small businesses.
Supporting the UK’s 5.5 million small businesses is at the heart of this Government’s Industrial Strategy, and our recent appointment of Paul Uppal to the post of Small Business Commissioner will further champion the interests of small business.
Uxbridge and South Ruislip is the proud home to nearly 5,000 micro and small businesses. A figure that has increased over 55% since 2010. My constituency is bustling with business! From the Baftas to bus stops, it’s all taking place right here in Uxbridge and South Ruislip. Our local butchers, bakers, restaurants, cafes, florists, newsagents, hairdressers and pubs are the backbone of our high streets and maintain the vibrancy of this constituency. I have had the pleasure to open some of these new start-ups or renovations of others and either way, the level of investment and commitment to this part of west London is fantastic.
I am proud to have supported Uxbridge Business Improvement District from the outset and so was delighted that following extensive consultation with local businesses, the vote was overwhelmingly in favour to launch Uxbridge BID. With plans to deliver £2.5m investment over five years, I am looking forward to seeing what can be achieved by bringing together the local business community in this way.
