Supporting Local Businesses

Uxbridge and South Ruislip's businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and are vital to our economy. I am proud of the Government’s record in supporting small businesses and of its ambition to go further and back them to the hilt.

As your MP I am especially keen to help support small businesses. From high-tech manufacturing firms to bakers, retailers, restaurants and social enterprises, the UK is home to a record number of small businesses.

I believe the best way to support business is through a strong, stable economic climate that supports investment and growth. The decision taken to prioritise high value infrastructure and innovation will support businesses across the UK. This includes increasing investment in local roads and digital connectivity to help rebalance the economy.

Uxbridge and South Ruislip is the proud home to over 5,300 registered enterprises, 97% of which are micro and small businesses. My constituency is bustling with business! From the Baftas to bus stops, it’s all taking place right here in Uxbridge and South Ruislip. Our local butchers, bakers, restaurants, cafes, florists, newsagents, hairdressers and pubs are the backbone of our high streets and maintain the vibrancy of this constituency. I have had the pleasure to open some of these new start-ups or renovations of others and either way, the level of investment and commitment to this part of west London is fantastic.

I am proud to have supported Uxbridge Business Improvement District from the outset and so was delighted that following extensive consultation with local businesses, the vote was overwhelmingly in favour to launch Uxbridge BID. Since 2017, the BID has invested over £2.5 million of Levy income into Uxbridge town centre, with an additional £460,000 of commercial and Government Funding being secured over the same Term. This income has been used with the simple aim; to help make Uxbridge an even more attractive, welcoming and safe place to shop, socialise, work and live.

I also engage regularly with the Hillingdon Chamber of Commerce and was delighted to attend their 2022 Hillingdon Expo event that took place at Brunel University where I got the opportunity to meet with many fantastic local businesses and see the incredible work that they do across the constituency, boosting the economy and providing lots of high-quality jobs. It was particularly pleasing to see people coming together again face to face to network and share ideas as we begin to really start to get the economy moving again after the difficulties of the pandemic.

If you would like me to visit your business or assist with an issue no matter how small, please do get in touch.
