From listening to local residents in Uxbridge and South Ruislip, I understand the need to improve the medical facilities available in Hillingdon. We have a hospital which the CQC says delivers good care but requires improvement and an ongoing challenge to bring a new health hub to the centre of Uxbridge.
We also have a growing population in Hillingdon, both young and old, who rely on the hard work of our doctors and nurses and I am committed to ensuring they have the top class facilities and resources they need to continue to carry out their jobs to highest possible standard.
In the next few months I look forward to welcoming the Secretary of State for Health to Uxbridge to see first-hand the urgent need for change and investment. I hope to help secure funding to redevelop the hospital and bring about the much needed state of the art facilities for residents of Hillingdon.
The proposed Uxbridge and West Drayton Hub has disappointingly been hit by major setbacks and I am frustrated that the lengthy negotiations between VSM and NHS Hillingdon CCG have failed to reach an agreement for health facilities on St Andrew’s Park development, as set out in the original s106 agreement. The CCG has now deemed the most viable proposal to be to redevelop the existing Uxbridge Health Centre. I am aware residents have several concerns about this proposal compared to a purpose built Hub and I will be pushing hard to seek the highest assurances that any redevelopment will meet the future needs of my constituents. If you have any comments on this proposal, please contact me here.
During my visits across my constituency, to organisations such as Hillingdon Mind, Hillingdon Carers and Trinity, the need to look after our mental health is evident. With as many as one in four people experiencing some form of mental illness at some point in their lives, we must treat it with the same importance as our physical health. The long-term plan for the NHS delivers record investment in mental health services – an extra £2.3 billion by 2023-24 and I hope to see real improvements for anyone who needs to access such services in Hillingdon.
I will continue to meet regularly with the key health stakeholders including The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Brunel University London, CNWL, NHS Hillingdon CCG and the Hillingdon Council to bring about tangible improvements.
