88% of primary schools and 81% of secondary schools in Uxbridge and South Ruislip are rated as good or outstanding by Ofsted. As your Member of Parliament, I firmly believe that Uxbridge and South Ruislip’s children deserve the very best and my vision for education is for more pupils to be taught in good or outstanding schools than ever before. I want to ensure that every child leaves school equipped to succeed and fulfil their potential.
In response to the high demand for school places, Hillingdon Council has invested in London’s largest school build project - a record £350 million in its Primary and Secondary School expansion programme to ensure every child in Hillingdon has a school place close to where they live. Hillingdon Council will be investing a further £20.8 million towards this programme in 2021/22.
Nationally there will be a £7.1 billion increase in funding for schools in England by 2022-23, compared to 2019-20 levels. This three-year investment represents the biggest school funding boost in a decade. As a Government we are also supporting teachers to manage their workload while also improving standards and discipline. Over 2,500 laptops were delivered to disadvantaged pupils across Hillingdon during the pandemic to support them with remote learning.
I also continue to promote the benefits of apprenticeships and vocational education courses which are being delivered at fantastic local education institutions including Uxbridge College and the West London Institute of Technology (IoT). Backed by £8.6 million of Government funding, the IoT is closing the skills gap in key STEM areas and boosting opportunities for students, trainees and apprentices across Uxbridge and South Ruislip.
